Your continual and enthusiastic support of the local music scene is a very appreciated and necessary service to all of the dedicated musicians that struggle to be heard. It's truly a shame when the "struggle to be heard" is caused by an inept soundman, let alone one with an arrogant attitude and overly inflated image of himself. It's tuff enuff for musicians to find a venue in which they can be heard, and with just a little understanding of what makes an enjoyable musical presentation, a soundman should be able to quickly work with the musicians, the tunes, and even the most minimal gear, to present a clear and decent mix. No one is impressed by unnecessary (and usually distorted) loudness when musical components struggle to be heard because of a sonic mess. If a club "comes with a soundman" every upcoming act should listen to his work in that room before they say "Great, they'll supply the soudman!" If what they hear sucks, they'd be far better off having a brave friend who loves their music give it a shot.....it's not rocket science....IT'S MUSIC....something you should enjoy with your ears, not be deafened by because of a soundmans incompetent approach.
